Visualizing Medieval Places (VMP) is a digital project that explores real place names extracted from literary and non-literary texts in medieval French as visualized on digital map interfaces.

Medieval French was composed along the arc from England to the Eastern Mediterranean over some four centuries (11-15th c).  The project is driven, in its initial stages, by overlapping questions of geographical imagination, generic norms of texts and reading communities.
